Title: The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
Wendy Norris, Assistant Professor Nazareth University
Abstract:The presentation will consist of 4 elements: Define artificial intelligence; Review the NPSE Code of Ethics; Discuss AI implementation traps relevant to engineering; Introduce state-of-the-art ethical engineering standards, including the UNESCO/World Federation of Engineering Organizations Code of AI Ethics and ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee Working Groups on AI implementation.
Biography - Wendy Norris holds three roles at Nazareth University: Assistant Professor in the Math and Data Science Department; Director of the Ethical Data Science program; and Founding Faculty of the Institute for Technology, AI & Society.
Wendy earned a Ph.D. in Information Science at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020. Her research investigates the impact of temporal disorder in sociotechnical systems that support time- and safety-critical humanitarian crisis response work.
Prior to her academic career, Wendy was most recently the founder/CEO of a startup specializing in data and technology needs for social venture organizations. She has held industry fellowships at Stanford University, the University of Southern California, the University of California Berkeley, City University of New York, and Trilateral Research in London.
